The Boston Red Sox won’t have slugging first baseman Willson Contreras in the lineup in Tuesday’s series opener against the Philadelphia Phillies on Tuesday.

Contreras left Sunday’s game after being hit by a pitch, and he and interim manager Chad Tracy weren’t too worried about the injury. Red Sox insider Chris Cotillo echoed those comments:

“As I understand it, Red Sox are still cautiously optimistic on Willson Contreras' hand injury and will re-assess when he arrives Tuesday. As of now, there's at least a chance he plays tomorrow against the Phillies. But it's a read-and-react thing,” Cotillo wrote on X on Monday.

However, the Red Sox revealed the starting lineup for Tuesday’s game, and Contreras isn’t in the lineup.

Boston’s lineup for Tuesday’s game is as follows:

Jovani Moran will be used as the opener for the Red Sox with Brayan Bello expected to pitch the bulk of the innings. Yet, Contreras not being in the lineup is a big blow as he’s been a key part of Boston’s offense.

Contreras is hitting .259 with 8 home runs and 23 RBIs in 135 at-bats this season.

First pitch for the Phillies-Red Sox series opener at Fenway Park is set for 6:45 p.m. ET.
