CLEVELAND — The first-place Guardians continue their nine-game homestand against the Los Angeles Angels on Tuesday, May 12, at Progessive Field.

This is the second game of a three-game series after the Guardians defeated the Angels 7-2 on Monday, May 11.

The Guardians started this homestand with a 6-4 win over the Minnesota Twins on Friday, May 8, and then lost 2-1 to the Twins in extra innings on Saturday, May 9, and 5-4 on Sunday, May 10. Longtime Guardians public address announcer Bob Tayek passes on

The Guardians made the following announcement this afternoon, May 12:

“It is with great sadness we share the news that our longtime public address announcer, Bob Tayek, has passed away today. For nearly three decades, Bob was the voice of Progressive Field, welcoming generations of fans to Cleveland baseball with warmth, professionalism and a presence that became part of the ballpark experience. Please keep Bob’s family, friends and all who worked alongside him in your thoughts during this difficult time.”

Tayek joined the Guardians organization in the 1990s, and served as public address announcer from 1999-2025. Tayek announced one World Series (2016) and one MLB All-Star Game (2019) at Progressive Field.

The Guardians issued the following statement on April 4 stating that Tayek would be stepping away:

“Cleveland Guardians long-time public address announcer Bob Tayek will be away from Progressive Field for at least the first half of the 2026 season as he focuses on recent health challenges. Once he is back on his feet, Tayek is expected to return to his role, marking his 27th season as the in-park voice of Cleveland baseball.

Tayek has been a fixture at Progressive Field since the late 1990s, becoming synonymous with the gameday experience for multiple generations of Guardians fans. During Tayek’s absence, the Guardians will utilize a team of interim public address announcers to maintain the high standard fans have come to expect at Progressive Field. The organization looks forward to the day Bob’s familiar voice once again echoes throughout the ballpark.”

Mark Tromba was the original public address announcer when Jacobs Field opened in 1994, and stayed in that role through 1997, announcing two World Series (1995 and 1997) and an MLB All-Star Game (1997).
