The Minnesota Twins earned a 5-4 victory against the Milwaukee Brewers on Sunday. The lineup scored five runs and gave the ball club an opportunity to win the contest. However, Bailey Ober once again turned in a strong performance on the mound.
Ober was not as good in this start as he was in his last outing. The right-handed hurler turned in a two-hit shutout in a victory against the Miami Marlins in his last start. On Sunday, Ober allowed three earned runs across five innings of work. He only struck out one hitter and he walked two batters, but Ober did enough to help the Twins win the contest.
The fact that Sunday's start felt underwhelming for Ober displays the fact that he is clearly improving overall. It was a respectable outing, but Ober is capable of turning in a better performance. Nevertheless, Minnesota earned the win.
Ober now holds a 3.63 ERA in 2026. He has recorded 40 strikeouts in his 57 innings on the mound. While Ober does not always strike out many hitters, he understands what it takes to find success.
The Twins could potentially trade Ober this season. Minnesota is not expected to make a legitimate postseason run, so dealing the pitcher away for prospects may be a decision they end up making. With that being said, nothing is guaranteed to happen. The American League Central is a winnable division as well.
Twins Defeat Brewers on Sunday
Minnesota earned a 5-4 victory on Sunday as mentioned. The bullpen allowed only one run following Ober's departure from the contest. It was a respectable overall pitching performance between Ober's start and the bullpen.
Offensively, the Twins finished the game with five runs on six hits. Ryan Jeffers, Kody Clemens and Luke Keaschall provided the offense for the most part as they each had two hits in the matchup.
Minnesota is now 21-26 overall this season. The ball club is 4.5 games behind the Cleveland Guardians for first place in the American League Central standings.
The Twins are not expected to make a postseason run, but anything can happen. Perhaps they will surprise the MLB world.
