Olivier Giroud (39), France’s all-time record goalscorer, joined Lille OSC on a free at the start of the season. However, his contract is up at the end of the season. Following LOSC’s qualification for next season’s UEFA Champions League, the former Arsenal and Chelsea forward was questioned on his future.
Giroud has played 44 games in all competitions this season, netting 11 goals, including four in the club’s UEFA Europa League campaign. He started half of Les Dogues’ games in Ligue 1, with his last goal coming in a 4-0 win over Toulouse FC on April 12th.
With his contract up, there is uncertainty regarding his future and indeed his career, given that he will turn 40 in September. However, the former France international doesn’t seem ready to hang up his boots just yet.
“I feel very good here,” he began in a post-match interview with Ligue 1 Plus on Sunday night. “It has been a great year and I am happy to have played a part. In general, you say that when you’re feeling good somewhere, there is no point seeing if the grass is greener on the other side.”
He added, “Nothing is decided but we are in talks. I have always said that if my body is willing, I want to continue, so why not?”
