Confronted with various obstacles, the LFP scheduled PSG's title celebration before the derby against Paris FC on Sunday. A botched and unflattering organization for Ligue 1.
PSG did not have a memorable trophy presentation. On Sunday night, an hour before the derby loss against Paris FC (2-1), the French champion briefly celebrated in a corner of Stade Jean-Bouin.
A celebration unworthy of Luis Enrique's team's journey, but also of the championship as a whole, according to journalist Romain Beddouk, who vented his anger in his column.
"It was a very sad evening for PSG and more broadly for French soccer," said the Ici Paris Ile-de-France columnist.
"It started with this ridiculous celebration: a sign, no podium, no music, no fireworks, in a corner, before the match, with the players in sneakers and while the stadium announcer was giving another message that has nothing to do with it. Maybe I'm telling you about the championship trophy presentation on Sunday morning… But no, apparently, even for that trophy, there is a protocol. No, I am indeed describing the Ligue 1 trophy ceremony, the French elite. A rather ridiculous and rather embarrassing moment."
"It wasn't necessarily embarrassing for PSG but more for the guarantors of Ligue 1's competitiveness. Presenting this trophy in this way is the worst possible denigration for the competition. There, the organizer completely assumes it: 'Yeah, whatever, our thing isn't really worth celebrating,'" interpreted Beddouk, before pointing the finger at the culprits.
"There are many responsible parties. I point the finger at the LFP, which messed up its calendar and its instructions to give to the clubs hosting the French champion." Then the Parisian observer attacked the authorities that turned down PSG.
"I also point the finger at the Paris police prefecture, which refused all proposals to celebrate it properly at the Parc des Princes, a street opposite Jean-Bouin, because the police prefecture does not know how to manage two flows of supporters from two different clubs. So when you don't know how to do it, the decision is to prohibit. Funny vision of freedom… And then there is Paris FC, which did absolutely nothing to make things easier, whether in terms of timing before the match or the space allocated. It could have been in the center of the field, but no, no, it was in a corner. For a club supposed to be a brother or a friend, it's still quite comical. So regarding this protocol, the evening was quite shameful for French soccer," the journalist insisted.
