The New York Mets have slowly but surely started to climb their way back into the standings in the NL after a disastrous start to the season, which continued on Thursday at home against the Detroit Tigers. Although the Mets went behind 3-0 early in this one, they eventually rallied and came away with a 9-4 home victory, completing their first series sweep of the season.
One of those runs came courtesy of superstar Juan Soto in the bottom of the seventh inning on a solo home run to give the Mets their eighth run of the contest.

Coming into Thursday’s game, there was some doubt as to whether or not Soto would be able to suit up, after he was removed from Wednesday evening’s contest against the Tigers due to what appeared to be a foot injury.
However, thankfully, X-rays on the injury came back negative, and Soto was back in the lineup in full force on Thursday as a designated hitter.
The Mets could certainly use some good fortune on the injury front after various ailments to star players have ravaged them so far this season, although that cannot fully explain why New York has been so bad up to this point in the campaign.
New York came into this season with legitimate World Series expectations after signing Bo Bichette in the offseason, but Bichette hasn’t performed up to expectations through two months, and New York has seen overall regression up and down the roster as a whole, resulting in their current poor record.
However, perhaps Thursday’s sweep of the Tigers will give the Mets the momentum they need to start to climb back toward the .500 mark.
