The Atlanta Braves defeated the Chicago Cubs by a final score of 5-2 on Tuesday night. The pitching performed well overall and a number of offensive players stepped up, but there was one player who led the way. Dominic Smith, who has played well while on the field in 2026, went 4-4 with two runs scored.
Smith joined the Braves before the 2026 campaign. It was a signing that did not receive too much attention, but it seems to be one of the best moves of the offseason. Smith is hitting .363/.391/.550. He has four home runs and three doubles as well.
Smith previously played with the New York Mets and San Francisco Giants. He has had some respectable seasons, but it seems as if Smith is putting everything together now.
The Braves have no shortage of stars on the roster. Smith has realistically been one of the team's best players in 2026, though. He does not always play everyday, but Smith is getting the job done when given the opportunity.
If he continues to perform like he is, Smith will give the Braves a crucial boost in the postseason and down the stretch of the regular season. Smith has given the Braves all they could have wanted and more so far.
Braves Earn Big Victory Against Cubs on Tuesday Night
The Braves and Cubs are two of the best teams in MLB this year. At 29-13, Atlanta leads the National League East standings. Meanwhile, the 27-15 Cubs are in first place in the National League Central.
Grant Holmes started Tuesday's game. He allowed two earned runs in four innings. Didier Fuentes followed Holmes' start with three impressive innings. The bullpen then shut the door as Atlanta earned the win.
Austin Riley and Mike Yastrzemski both hit home runs and had two hits in the contest. They both contributed to the five-run outburst while Smith led the way.
The Braves are taking care of business despite being in a difficult part of their schedule. Atlanta earned a 2-1 series win against the Dodgers in Los Angeles during the weekend. Now they are ahead 1-0 in their series against the Cubs.
The Braves and Cubs will play once again in Atlanta on Wednesday night as the competitive series continues. First pitch for the Braves and Cubs clash is scheduled for 7:15 PM EST in what should be another good ball game.
