The New York Mets season has not gone to plan. At 15-25, the Mets are the worst team in Major League Baseball and are watching their playoff hopes slip away, as they're 12.5 games back in the National League East.
Injuries have played a role in the Mets' tumultuous season, but the players brought in to replace everyday players like Andy Ibanez have not performed well. Since getting claimed off waivers from the Athletics on April 30, Ibanez has no hits in three games (six at-bats).
With a lack of production from nobody on the roster other than a handful of players, the Mets need a major turnaround if they're to get back into the playoff picture.

According to MLB.com's Anthony DiComo, the Mets' lack of production on a roster that has the third-highest payroll in Major League Baseball ($334.9 million) needs to change for things to get better.
"That’s not an attempt to be facetious. Outside of Clay Holmes and Juan Soto, virtually no one on the roster has come close to meeting expectations. While some have improved in recent days as the Mets have mustered a few wins, the team needs better health from its position players and more power production. The bullpen must be more consistent and the pitchers at the back end of the rotation must throw well enough to prove they belong. So, yeah, it’s a long list."

Since becoming a starting pitcher again last season, right-hander Clay Holmes has been great, with a 4-3 record and a 1.86 ERA in eight starts this season. Whereas outfielder Juan Soto has been his usual All-Star-type self, despite missing time with a calf injury. Soto is hitting .264 with a .826 OPS in 25 games.
The one player the Mets need to start seeing production from is infielder Bo Bichette. Signed to a massive three-year ($126 million) contract this offseason, Bichette is hitting .222 with a .559 OPS through 40 games.
If Bichette can start to figure it out and help add another big bat to the Mets lineup, things could start to get better.
