The Golden State Warriors are currently in the early stages of their 2026 offseason following their play-in loss to the Phoenix Suns. The team recently learned that head coach Steve Kerr would be returning on a new two-year deal amid retirement speculation heading into the summer.
Recently, Warriors power forward and future Hall of Famer Draymond Green weighed in on arguably the biggest controversy in the NBA right now: the fact that San Antonio Spurs star Victor Wembanyama was not suspended for his vicious elbow of Minnesota Timberwolves big man Naz Reid in their second round series.
“…what if the shoe was on the other foot and it was Naz Reid taking out Wemby? I think this situation would look totally different. There would be fines. There would be suspensions,” said Green, per The Draymond Green Show, via Hoopshype. “…For there not to even be a fine is crazy. It’s crazy. And I’m not for guys getting fined. I’m not for guys getting suspended. But for there not to even be a fine, let alone a suspension, I think is insane.”
Indeed, many suspected that Wembanyama’s status as the potential future face of the league played a big role in the NBA’s decision not to suspend him for Tuesday’s pivotal Game 5, with the series tied at 2-2. While Wembanyama was rightfully ejected for the play, historically, similar incidents in the league have drawn multi-game suspensions.
Green is no stranger to getting suspended for dirty plays in the postseason, including 2023’s spat with Sacramento Kings center Domantas Sabonis, which could have played a role in his dismay that the same standard was not used for Wemby.
In any case, Game 5 of the Spurs vs Timberwolves series is set to get underway on Tuesday at 8:00 pm ET.
