The Los Angeles Dodgers acquired pitcher Eric Lauer on Sunday in a trade with the Toronto Blue Jays. Lauer, a left-handed pitcher, features both starting and relief pitching experience. Dodgers manager Dave Roberts revealed Lauer’s expected role with the ball club on Sunday, via Maddie Lee of The Los Angeles Times.
“Dave Roberts said Eric Lauer should be joining the Dodgers in San Diego (working through some travel issues). Initially picturing Lauer in a length role out of the bullpen,” Lee reported.
The Dodgers are always looking to add depth. Blake Snell recently landed on the injured list, so adding another pitcher certainly is not a bad idea.
Lauer, 30, appeared in eight games with the Blue Jays in 2026. Six of the eight appearances were starts. While his ERA is far from ideal this season, Lauer turned in a 3.18 ERA across 28 appearances (15 starts) during the 2025 campaign. A fresh start may be exactly what Lauer needs at the moment.
The Dodgers are playing well despite battling some injury trouble. Los Angeles is 6-4 over the past 10 games. Additionally, the Dodgers lead the National League West by one game over the San Diego Padres. The ball club most recently cruised to a series sweep against the Los Angeles Angels. The Dodgers defeated the Angels by final scores of 6-0, 15-2 and 10-1 from Friday to Sunday.
Los Angeles will carry a five-game winning streak into an upcoming series against the San Diego Padres. The first contest of the series is scheduled for 9:40 PM EST on Sunday night.
