One more win and the San Antonio Spurs are back in the Western Conference Finals for the first time since 2017. Coach Mitch Johnson got a lot of players involved to bury the Minnesota Timberwolves in Game 5 and it resulted to a massive 126-97 win. While all of that happened, Victor Wembanyama was clearly out for blood and he notched an NBA Playoffs record last touched by Anthony Davis.

Wembanyama shows signs of a champion, breaks Davis' NBA Playoffs record

The lopsided win of the Spurs was obviously due to Victor Wembanyama coming back from an ejection and having a chip on his shoulder. How intense was his performance against the Timberwolves? Well, Coach Mitch Johnson only played him in 33 minutes but his impact felt until the end.

Wembanyama knocked down nine of his 16 shots from the field and went 40% from three-point range to score 27 points. He also dropped five assists to keep the Spurs' momentum infectious but was not the highlight of his night. The big man grabbed 17 rebounds while getting three blocks to prevent the Timberwolves from gaining any sort of life.

The Spurs big man now becomes the first player to record 25+ points, 15+ rebounds, 5+ assists, and 3+ blocks since Anthony Davis with the Los Angeles Lakers, per StatMuse.

Notably, Davis was able to win come out on top of the NBA Playoffs after having nights like these. It also signals that the Spurs have all the ability to win the Larry O'Brien trophy if Coach Johnson and Wembanyama continue to have this great of a synergy.

The Spurs can close this NBA Playoffs series out in Game 6 but it will take a lot more than this performance from Wembanyama. Can they go back to the Western Conference Finals for the first time since 2017?
