Ousmane Dembele's future has been stalled for months, with the player not having accepted PSG's proposal. But things have apparently evolved in the right direction between the two parties.
We saw it again on Wednesday at the Allianz Arena during the match against Bayern Munich. Dembele, 28, demonstrated that he is a player of a different class.
Without being brilliant, the Ballon d'Or winner achieved a perfect statistical line with 1 shot, 1 shot on target, and one goal.
Executioner of the Germans, the French attacker was replaced in the 66th minute of play, and far from grumbling, as others would have done, Dembele greeted Luis Enrique and played assistant coach on the sideline, motivating his teammates like never before.
For PSG, it is essential to extend the contract of the player who will be free in two years. However, in recent months, nothing was clear between Dembele's agents and PSG's management. According to L'Equipe, things have evolved in the right direction, and supporters can rest assured that Dembele will very likely extend his contract in Paris.
For now, the negotiations were purely about salary, with Dembele wanting almost double his current salary. Currently, the French international earns $19.6 million, but he wants to pocket $32.7 million in exchange for an extension, which made PSG executives hesitate.
But everything has changed, especially on the PSG side, where it is now acknowledged that Dembele's status warrants an effort.
"The figures mentioned around an extension at the start of the season and those put forward a few months later are no longer the same at all," specifies the cited outlet, which adds that even if Dembele's representatives had received offers from Saudi Arabia, the player gave priority to PSG.
PSG and the Dembele camp are therefore close to an agreement, and it will not be a symbolic extension as was the case with Kylian Mbappe's extension, with PSG having implied that Mbappe had extended until 2025, when it was until 2024, plus an option year.
For the 2025 Ballon d'Or winner, in contention for the 2026 Ballon d'Or, his Parisian career is going to be extended for several years. "All parties are now confident about seeing the Ballon d'Or winner sign a long-term contract," L'Equipe explained. Dembele will celebrate his 29th birthday on May 15.
