Phillies linked to trade for 1.032 OPS Rockies outfielder in potential fun reunion originally appeared on The Sporting News. Add The Sporting News as a Preferred Source by clicking here.
The Philadelphia Phillies were at one point 9-19, and have gone on a winning streak to get back to 21-23, only a few games under .500, and back in the fight for a postseason spot.
Barring another collapse, the Phillies should be heading towards the MLB trade deadline as buyers. And, once again, the team will need to add more outfield help.
Kerry Miller of Bleacher Report highlighted the outfield need as one the club could use, especially with some question marks on Justin Crawford defensively and Adolis Garcia offensively. Miller linked Philadelphia to one familiar face as a trade target.
"Long story short, pursuing a reunion with Mickey Moniak could be in the cards here," Miller writes.
This would be a very fun reunion for the Phillies, as adding Moniak, who has a 1.032 OPS, wouldn't just be a simple reunion; it would be an upgrade to the team's outfield.
Phillies linked to fun trade for Mickey Moniak
If the Phillies could add one position at this year's deadline, it would likely be an outfield upgrade. Brandon Marsh has been great, but there are too many question marks with Garcia and Crawford this season.
While they could also look to upgrade Alec Bohm's spot at third base, the outfield is the area of the roster that's plagued the Phillies for a while now.
Moniak was the Phillies' first-overall pick in the 2016 MLB Draft out of High School. He's 28 years old now and has turned into a good Major Leaguer.
He was a solid hitter for the Los Angeles Angels in 2023, but a down year in 2024 left some questions. Then he joined the Colorado Rockies, thrived in limited playing time in 2024, and is now playing at an All-Star level in 2026.

In just 36 games, Moniak has 1.1 bWAR with 40 hits, 21 runs scored, eight doubles, two triples, 12 homers, 26 RBIs, one stolen base, nine walks, 37 strikeouts, a .308 batting average, a .677 slugging percentage (best in MLB), and a 1.032 OPS (best in NL).
The Phillies adding Moniak might not be the perfect fit, considering the team needs more right-handed hitting, but he'd be a very fun trade deadline pickup.
He's a free agent after the 2027 season, so the Phillies should actually consider acquiring him as a potential platoon partner in the outfield with Garcia.
Realistically, the Phillies won't acquire Moniak as he's not a great fit for what this team needs. But that doesn't mean this wouldn't be a fun reunion if it were to happen.
