Minnesota Twins Announce Roster Moves on Friday

The Minnesota Twins announced two roster moves on Friday. Right-handed pitcher Yoendrys Gomez was activated, while right-handed pitcher John Klein was optioned to Triple-A. The moves were made before the team's game against the Guardians in Cleveland on Friday night.

Gomez previously pitched for the Tampa Bay Rays but was recently traded to the Twins after being designated for assignment. The 26-year-old has pitched to a 6.23 ERA this year so far. He is looking to have a better overall performance with the Twins.

Sometimes all a pitcher needs is a fresh start. It would not be surprising to see him perform at a higher level with the Twins. He has the potential to make an impact.

Klein, meanwhile, is a 24-year-old who only made two appearances for Minnesota at the big league level this season. He allowed two earned runs in 2.1 innings of work out of the bullpen.

Klein is a pitcher who could receive another opportunity down the road. For now, he will look to find success at the Triple-A level.

The Twins' bullpen has struggled overall so far in 2026. Perhaps Gomez will help the bullpen turn things around.

Twins' Overall Performance in 2026

Minnesota is currently 16-22 and in last place in the American League Central. Yet, their upcoming series against the Guardians is of the utmost importance.

At the moment, the Twins are only 3.5 games back of the Guardians for first place in the American League Central standings. If they can win the series or even earn a sweep, they will improve their standings placement with question.

It is already May, and teams are beginning to think about their trade deadline strategies. If Minnesota finds itself in serious contention in the AL Central, then perhaps trying to compete for a postseason spot will not be out of the question.

If the Twins were to get swept in the series against the Guardians, the Twins would find themselves well out of contention and that could potentially impact their plans for the trade deadline.

It should be a competitive series in Cleveland. The Guardians may be in first place right now, but they are only 20-19 overall in 2026. The ball club has been rather inconsistent for the most part.

The three-game series between the AL Central rival ball clubs will begin on Friday night in Cleveland. First pitch is scheduled for 7:15 PM EST.
