The Golden State Valkyries won their season-opener on Friday against the Seattle Storm by double digits, and the Phoenix Mercury demolished the Las Vegas Aces 99-66 in their opener on Saturday.
Both teams will look to improve to 2-0 when the Valkyries host the Mercury at the Chase Center tonight.
Natasha Mack dominated the glass on Saturday, and my Mercury vs. Valkyries predictions expect her to be a productive rebounder for a second straight game.

Mercury vs Valkyries best bet: Natasha Mack Over 8.5 rebounds (-125)
Natasha Mack pulled down a career-high 15 rebounds in Saturday’s blowout victory over the Aces, making the most of her boosted role in the Phoenix Mercury’s new-look rotation.
Mack averaged a career-best 5.8 rebounds per game in just 18.3 minutes last season, while drawing 23 starts. In seven games played with at least 23 minutes, she averaged 9.4 boards and grabbed 9+ six times.
She logged 25 minutes against Vegas, but she could have seen even more playing time had the Mercury not won by 33 points.
The Golden State Valkyries surrendered the fourth-most rebounds (41) and second-most offensive rebounds (13) in their opener against the Storm.

Among players with at least 15 minutes per game in 2025, Mack finished with the seventh-highest rebound percentage (15.6) and the second-highest offensive rebound percentage (12.6).

Alyssa Thomas led the WNBA in assists per game with a career-best 9.2 last season. Thomas’ 16 assists against the Valkyries tied a career-high, and she averaged 11.7 helpers against Golden State in three matchups, her most vs. any opponent in 2025.
The Valkyries beat a rebuilding Storm team on Friday, but they’ll face the 2025 runners-up in a much more difficult matchup after the Mercury crushed the Aces.
Phoenix is the better team on both ends of the floor, particularly on offense with myriad scoring options and star floor general Thomas. The Mercury finished 4-0 straight up and 3-0-1 ATS in four head-to-head matchups with the V’s last season.

Mercury vs Valkyries first basket scorer: Kahleah Copper (+450)
At 6-foot-4, Mack will already be the tallest player on the court, and her long wingspan puts her in an advantageous position to win the opening tip-off. With a 6-foot-11 wingspan, Mack has four inches on Kiah Stokes in that category.
Mack won the opening tip on Saturday against the Aces, and Thomas got the first bucket on a layup. I’m counting on Thomas to facilitate at a high level, so in keeping with that theme, I’ll bet on her finding Kahleah Copper on the opening possession.
In Saturday’s big win over Las Vegas, Thomas attempted 17 shots, and Copper took 16. The two will be the focal point of the offense this season, and Copper will get first-basket honors in tonight’s tilt at Chase Center.
