The Philadelphia Phillies are nearly at .500 with their strong performances lately since Don Mattingly took over. Instead of being a bottom-feeder and heading towards the trade deadline as sellers, the Phillies look like legitimate buyers right now.

At 20-22, the Phillies have been heating up, and could easily become buyers by the August 3rd trade deadline.

According to Robert Murray of Fansided.com, the Phillies, if they're buyers, are linked to a move that Dave Dombrowski loves to make.

"But if they buy, it's clear they need another big hitter in the lineup," Murray writes. "Who that could be remains to be seen – buyers and sellers still have months to establish themselves – but Dave Dombrowski loves to swing big."

With Dombrowski loving to take a big swing at the trade deadline, this year might finally be the season in which the Phillies don't pull any punches and target an elite hitter to bolster the lineup in what could be a very exciting roster move.

The Phillies winding up as buyers after their start to the season would be a win on its own. That would mean they have a legitimate chance to make the postseason, which is an accomplishment after the 9-19 start.

But this season, Dombrowski might finally make his move to acquire a slugger for this lineup that has clearly been playing without one more key offensive piece.

Bryce Harper, Kyle Schwarber, and Trea Turner are a strong trio, and Brandon Marsh looks to finally be breaking out this season as a legit star.

Beyond those four, J.T. Realmuto has been a bit of a letdown, Justin Crawford hasn't thrived at the MLB level despite his propensity for clutch hits, and while Bryson Stott is heating up, he hasn't been as good as fans had hoped.

Adolis Garcia also hasn't been the great power hitter the Phillies were hoping he could return to being, and Alec Bohm might be one of the biggest disappointments in MLB.

If the Phillies could add one more slugger to this lineup, ideally a right-handed hitter who can mash lefties, they could be in a much better spot going forward this season.

With Murray linking the Phillies to such a big swing, thanks to it being a move Dombrowski loves to make, the 2026 season might finally be the year a star is acquired for the Phillies' lineup.
