Katherine Legge is setting her sights on one of racing's most challenging tasks. Legge will attempt "The Double" by running the 2026 Indianapolis 500 and the Coca-Cola 600 on the same day, the driver revealed to USA TODAY Sports. The 45-year-old driver will become the first woman to ever attempt "The Double."
Legge will drive the No. 11 car for HMD Motorsports with AJ Foyt Racing in the Indianapolis 500. Since there are only 33 entries, she is locked into the event. Then, Legge will pilot the No. 78 car for Live Fast Motorsports in the Coca-Cola 600. As of now, it is unclear if there will be 40-plus entries. Both cars will be sponsored by e.l.f. Cosmetics.
This is a stunning development, as Legge's attempt at "The Double" is being announced two weeks before Sunday, May 24. In fact, Legge recently had her first day of 2026 Indianapolis 500 practice on Tuesday. Now, Legge will attempt to complete all 1,100 miles of racing between Indianapolis and Charlotte.
