Insider Reveals Phillies Likely Alec Bohm Decision Ahead of MLB Trade Deadline

There have definitely been some problems for the Philadelphia Phillies throughout the 2026 campaign, and the biggest has perhaps been Alec Bohm.

Bohm, who many viewed as a decent player and was once an All-Star, just hasn't been anything that the Phillies have been hoping for over the past few years. It's been an unfortunate situation, and one that probably has to be figured out sooner rather than later.

On the flip side of that, we've heard a lot of trade chatter about the right-handed-hitting third baseman over the past few years, and nothing has happened. Now being benched at times and simply not playing well outside of Saturday's game, in which he hit two home runs and a double while going 3-4, Bohm has been one of the worst players in baseball, hitting .177 on the year.

When looking for ways to fix that, it was recently proposed that they could go out and make a trade, and that Dave Dombrowski might have no choice but not to wait until the beginning of August to do so.

“The Phillies discussed trading Bohm two winters ago after he was an All-Star in 2024, the second of his two consecutive 97-RBI seasons. They would’ve moved on from him in January if free agent Bo Bichette accepted their $200 million offer. In both instances, their instinct may have been correct…

“Trades don’t typically get made in May. But given the Phillies’ lack of production at third base (.514 OPS, 28th in the majors through Thursday) and in the cleanup spot (.612 OPS, 26th), Dombrowski might not be able to wait until the Aug. 3 trade deadline,” Scott Lauber of The Inquirer wrote.

I hate getting rid of guys who were once very good players, as Bohm proved that in the first half a few years ago, but it's gotten to the point where the Phillies probably don't have any other choice.

If this team is serious about making a postseason run, which it definitely is, and it has been playing better recently at 18-22 on the year, there's just no reason for him to be on the roster in the short or long term.
