Former LSU baseball star enjoying solid season in Astros organization

Former LSU baseball star Ethan Frey is off to a solid start in his first full season of professional baseball. The ex-LSU star is an everyday starter for the Asheville Tourists, the High-A affiliate of the Houston Astros.

In the month of May, Frey is hitting .262 with 16 hits and 12 runs scored. He also boasts an on-base percentage of .324 and a .410 slugging percentage over the same span. The former Tiger currently rides a three-day hitting streak, beginning May 15 with three hits.

On May 8, Frey recorded his most impressive performance at the plate. He hit two home runs and batted in four runs. The contest was in the middle of a seven-game hit streak, the longest of his career this far.

In 2026, Frey is batting .236 with a .331 on-base percentage and a .681 OPS. He has 33 hits, 21 runs and 20 RBI. The right-hander was selected by the Astros in the third round of the 2025 MLB Draft with the No. 95 overall pick.

Frey was a key cog in LSU baseball's 2025 lineup that won the College World Series. Frey's power proved tough for LSU to replace in 2026.
