FC Köln still cashing in on sale of Jonas Urbig to Bayern Munich

Bayern Munich made an astute acquisition when it brought in goalkeeper Jonas Urbig from FC Köln back in January of 2025.

Urbig looks like a worthy successor to Manuel Neuer and has had a seamless integration into the notoriously fickle goalkeeper group for the Bavarians. Urbig has been so good in his limited appearances that he is even under consideration for the German national team at this summer’s FIFA World Cup, despite his lack of playing time.

All of that still comes at the price, though, for Bayern Munich as detailed by Kölner Stadt-Anzeiger (as captured by @iMiaSanMia):

Bayern will pay Köln over €1m once Jonas Urbig has played a competitive game for the national team. Köln have also received an extra €2m after Urbig made 30 competitive appearances for Bayern. Bayern had paid a fixed fee of €7m in January 2025, which in total can go up to €15m if all add-on clauses are reached.

This is one of those problems that are good to have and a cost that Bayern Munich is undoubtedly happy to pay. It would be an incredible moment if Urbig gets the call for Germany and one that not many people would have seen coming just 17 months ago.
