For Yankees fans who want to watch the subway series Friday, there's no reason to transfer to the 7 train. You can get off right in Manhattan.

As part of the Apple TV broadcast, the Friday night matchup between the Mets and Yankees will be airing on a Times Square billboard. This is another step in Apple TV's strategy of airing famous matchups in the iconic Manhattan location.

It will be a home game for the Mets, taking place in Flushing, Queens. However, the Yankees will come in as the favorites, with a record of 27-17 while the Mets sit at 16-25.

Why is Apple TV broadcasting Mets-Yankees in Times Square?

The Times Square broadcast is taking place as part of MLB's Rivalry Weekend promotion. This weekend of games features some of the most popular regional rivalries in the MLB, with the Mets and Yankees facing off in the subway series.

But the subway is no longer needed for many, with less of a need to take a train to Queens to see the game in-person. For Manhattan locals and tourists alike, there will be a block in Times Square airing the game.

The goal with this stunt is to get more eyes on baseball, especially in a major rivalry with two teams from the big apple. For those in Times Square, just sit back and enjoy the game, albeit from an interesting angle.

What time does the Mets-Yankees Times Square broadcast start?

The Yankees-Mets game begins at 7:15 p.m. in Queens, where the Mets play host to the Yankees. It goes live on Apple TV at the same time, with the game being projected onto a Times Square billboard.

It's set to be a pitchers' duel in this one, with Cam Schlittler taking on Clay Holmes. Both pitches hold an ERA under 2.00 entering this contest.

Have other sporting events been broadcast in Times Square?

Broadcasting sports in Times Square is not a new phenomenon. In 1919, 28 years before the first World Series was shown on television, a times square billboard included a scoreboard of the game, which was updated via telegraph.

Apple TV has recently become the home for F1 in America, and, as a result, they bought a billboard to promote the race and broadcast immersive footage over the screen.
