It's no secret that the Boston Red Sox have had one of the roughest starts to the 2026 regular season of any team across Major League Baseball.

Just like the Philadelphia Phillies, the Red Sox have fired their manager, and now look to bounce back from a bad start.

Kerry Miller of Bleacher Report predicted that the Red Sox will make the postseason after such a bad start.

"Boston Red Sox still make the postseason," Miller writes. "…And Boston rallying from its Alex Cora-firing start to still make the postseason fits the bill."

While Miller made this prediction amid 10 "hot-takes," this isn't actually spicy at all. The reason why: they're already almost in a playoff spot.

Why Red Sox making the postseason isn't a hot take

While the city of Boston is going through some tough times lately, and the Red Sox's tough start to the year has been part of those struggles, overall, they're not in a bad spot.

Boston is currently 16-21 on the season, which isn't too terrible after their brutal start.

The Red Sox might be nine games back of the New York Yankees in the AL East, but in the AL Wild Card, they're just 1.5 games back.

There are two 18-20 teams in the Detroit Tigers and Seattle Mariners occupying postseason spots right now, and the Athletics (18-18) and Cleveland Guardians (19-19) lead the AL West and AL Central, respectively.

All the Red Sox have to do from now until the end of the season, which is over 100 games away, is make up 1.5 games. That's very easy.

While it might seem like a hot take to call this Red Sox team a postseason contender with how bad things were, considering how bad the rest of the American League has been, Boston isn't actually in that bad of a spot at all.
