Takeaways from the RB rankings

One of the sneakiest fantasy winners this offseason was D’Andre Swift in Chicago. The veteran was the RB14 in fantasy points per game last season, as the clear lead back ahead of Kyle Monangai. When Monangai earned more touches starting in Week 6, Swift’s numbers actually improved — making him the RB10 in fppg from that point on. So why then is Swift going off the board as the RB24 in current ADP? That represents a major value for a player who should push for top-20 and perhaps even top-15 fantasy RB production once again in Ben Johnson’s scheme. Monangai is also worth targeting as an RB3/flex option with one-injury upside.

Jeremiyah Love got even better draft capital than expected with the third pick overall, but ended up in an offense with several question marks. Arizona will need to sort out their quarterback situation and offensive line before we can have complete confidence in new head coach Mike LaFleur’s attack. Regardless, Love is a high-end prospect who the team heavily invested in. Don’t overthink this one. The rookie is going to dominate this backfield en route to a low-end fantasy RB1 finish — with Tyler Allgeier providing flex value in a complementary role. James Conner is coming off a season-ending injury, will be 31 when Week 1 arrives and took a pay cut to stay with the Cardinals. Meanwhile, Trey Benson has yet to prove he’s a starting-caliber back and is also recovering from an injury-marred campaign.

Jadarian Price snuck into the end of Round 1, going to the Seahawks as the 32nd overall pick. Before we get too excited about that draft capital, just remember recent running backs selected near the end of the first round haven’t always panned out — like Clyde Edwards-Helaire, Sony Michel and Rashaad Penny. This is an excellent situation for Price to land in though, with Zach Charbonnet (ACL) not expected back until late in the season. Price’s main competition will come in the form of career backups Emanuel Wilson and George Holani. That positions Price to be a borderline low-end RB2/high-end RB3 with the potential for more if he can prove to his coaching staff that he deserves the job.

Every fantasy manager wants to uncover the next breakout star or sleeper no one saw coming. However, some of the best value picks end up being veterans whom people have underestimated. Chuba Hubbard is poised to be that kind of asset in 2026. Rico Dowdle temporarily took over the starting job in Carolina last season en route to a 1,000-yard campaign, but that didn’t occur until Hubbard got injured. Then Hubbard seemed to rush his return to the lineup in an effort to avoid losing his spot atop the depth chart, and unfortunately, he wasn’t the same player from that point on. It’s worth remembering that Hubbard’s only one year removed from finishing as the RB12 in fppg with 1,195 rushing yards, 43 receptions, 171 receiving yards and 11 touchdowns in 2024. With Dowdle signing in Pittsburgh, Hubbard’s main competition will now be Jonathon Brooks, who’s working his way back from multiple serious knee injuries — and there is no guarantee he’ll be the same player the Panthers drafted in the second round two years ago. Let’s hope Brooks can get back to his previous form, but at the moment, Hubbard is the favorite to lead this backfield once again.
