Yankees place starter Max Fried on IL with bone bruise in left elbow ahead of Subway Series

New York Yankees starting pitcher Max Fried is heading to the injured list for an undetermined amount of time after being diagnosed with a bone bruise, the team announced Friday. Fried underwent an MRI and CT scan Thursday, revealing a bone bruise in the pitcher’s left arm.

As a result, the lefty starter was placed on the 15-day IL, with New York saying he will undergo additional scans in “a few weeks [or when asymptomatic].” At that time, the rehabilitation timeline for Fried will be clearer.

The team added that Dr. Neal ElAttrache, a renown orthopedic surgeon, will consult by looking over Fried’s scans.

Fried pitched in the Yankees’ 7-0 loss to the Baltimore Orioles on Wednesday, allowing five hits and three runs in three innings before getting pulled. Overall, Fried has a 3.21 ERA across 10 starts.

The announcement came hours before the start of the Subway Series, with the Yankees traveling to Queens to take on the New York Mets. Yankees ace Cam Schlittler is set to start in Friday’s series opener.
