For most clubs, winning the DFB-Pokal would cap off a fantastic season. For Bayern Munich, though, expectations are always different. That is what makes this question so interesting.
Bayern Munich’s Champions League exit to PSG left a sour taste for many fans because the competition remains the ultimate measuring stick for the club. Domestically, Bayern is expected to compete for every trophy every season. Europe is where legacies are built. That is why crashing out before reaching the final felt like another missed opportunity for a squad loaded with world-class talent.
Still, lifting the DFB-Pokal would not be meaningless. Winning a domestic cup would give Bayern another trophy, help restore some confidence, and provide Vincent Kompany with tangible success in his first season. It could also help soften the blow of the European disappointment by proving that the team can still respond under pressure and finish strong.
There is also something to be said for mentality. Bayern has been criticized in recent years for inconsistency in big moments, defensive lapses, and failing to fully dominate matches against elite competition. Winning the Pokal would not erase those concerns entirely, but it would show resilience and give the squad momentum heading into next season.
On the other hand, many supporters will still view the campaign through the lens of the Champions League. Bayern did not assemble a roster featuring Harry Kane, Michael Olise, Jamal Musiala, and Manuel Neuer simply to win domestic silverware. The expectation is to challenge for Europe’s biggest prize every single year.
So maybe the better question is this: Would a DFB-Pokal title change how you remember this season — or would the PSG loss still define it?
