Bayern Munich bosses can’t say enough good things about head coach Vincent Kompany.
Honorary president Uli Hoeneß touted Kompany’s qualities again in recent statements that also stressed that when it comes to leadership at FC Bayern, it is about so much more than on the field — and so much more than sport itself.
“He has to be a team player and a team builder. And he has to have a very high level of social competence. Vincent Kompany has that — Jupp Heynckes and Ottmar Hitzfeld had it too, and in a broader sense, so did Udo Lattek and Giovanni Trapattoni. The great coaches were the ones who looked beyond the confines of football and were interested in everyday life,” Hoeneß said in remarks captured by Frankfurter Allgemeine (via @iMiaSanMia). “If you go to dinner with Vincent Kompany today, you’ll get into a lot of talk. Did you hear how he recently addressed the issue of racism at a press conference? And he was unprepared for the question.”
Clearly, Kompany is in good company among Bayern’s coaching greats — and he appears to stand alone among recent appointees in the eyes of Hoeneß.
