The Minnesota Timberwolves escaped Game 4 with more than just a crucial 114-109 victory over the San Antonio Spurs. The T-Wolves also walked away with one of the defining moments of the 2026 NBA Playoffs. Early in the second quarter, Target Center fell silent after Victor Wembanyama caught Naz Reid with a hard elbow to the jaw and neck. Following an official review, Wemby was given a Flagrant 2 foul. That resulted in the first ejection of his NBA career. Now, while the spotlight initially focused on the Spurs superstar’s exit, Reid quickly became the emotional centerpiece of the night.
After returning to the floor, Reid eventually powered Minnesota’s frontcourt with 15 points and nine rebounds. He helped the Wolves even the series at 2-2. Postgame, Reid delivered the kind of icy quote that’s just perfect for the Twin Cities.
“Pain is weakness leaving the body, that’s it,” Reid said calmly when asked about the blow.
The physicality between the two teams has steadily escalated throughout the series. However, Sunday’s collision felt like a breaking point. Sure, Spurs coach Mitch Johnson defended Wembanyama by saying the French star was trying to protect himself. Still, officials deemed the elbow excessive and unnecessary.
As for Reid, he has quietly become one of the Timberwolves’ most valuable postseason weapons. After playing a massive role against the Denver Nuggets in Round 1, he has continued delivering consistent production against San Antonio. He is currently averaging 11.8 points and 7.4 rebounds in the postseason. Whether spacing the floor with efficient three-point shooting or battling inside against elite size, Reid continues to prove why he has become so central to Minnesota’s playoff identity.
