Towering 7’4″ star Victor Wembanyama is getting his first taste of action in the NBA Playoffs with the San Antonio Spurs, who selected him with the first overall pick in the 2023 NBA Draft.

Currently, Wembanyama and the Spurs are deadlocked at two games apiece in the Western Conference Semifinal against the Minnesota Timberwolves, who knotted the series on Sunday evening with a 114-109 victory at Target Center in Minneapolis. The most targeted player on the Spurs, Wembanyama is bearing the brunt of the physicality as the face of the team.

He’s got the bumps and bruises to prove it, as noted by teammate Luke Kornet – but he’s fighting through it and trying to will his team to victory.

“He’s got a pretty impressive array of cuts and lacerations,” Kornet said via Insider Matt Guzman on X, formerly known as Twitter. “Obviously, he’s got a lot of limbs. A lot of targets. The way he plays, he’s always pretty cut up. It happens. He plays hard and aggressive, so obviously guys are trying to grab and grab him. He does a pretty good job of trying to play through it.”

So far in his first NBA playoffs, Wembanyama is averaging 30.7 minutes of night per game and has averaged 21.9 points per game, 11.4 rebounds, 2.3 assists, and five blocks. He’s also shooting 54.1 percent from the field, along with 36.4 percent from beyond the arc.

He and the Spurs will try to regroup from their loss on Sunday when they meet the Timberwolves for a critical Game 5 on Tuesday evening back in San Antonio.
