The Buffalo Sabres and Montreal Canadiens are playing Game 5 of their second-round series on Thursday night. It’s a game both teams desperately want to win before heading back to Montreal for Game 6. On Thursday, it was the Sabres who opened the scoring thanks to an incredible deflection from Jason Zucker.

The Sabres were applying pressure in the offensive zone and looking for something to go their way. Jack Quinn took a shot on goal that eventually found its way into the net. Upon review, it was shown that the puck deflected off Zucker and another player before going into the net.

It was a big shot of momentum for Buffalo. However, this lead did not last long. Cole Caufield scored his fourth goal of the postseason to make it 1-1 in the first period. But they were able to reclaim the lead after Josh Doan found the back of the net with a little over 12 minutes remaining in the opening frame.

No lead is safe in this game, though. Seconds after Doan scored, the Canadiens once again tied the game. Alexandre Texier found the back of the net to make it a 2-2 game in this chaotic first period of play. Buffalo once again took the lead as Konsta Helenius scored his first career playoff goal to make it 3-2.

The Sabres and Canadiens are fighting for a spot in the Eastern Conference Finals. Both teams have traded blowout wins, and they played a close affair in Game 4. It appears as if Game 5 will be another tight affair between two extremely talented teams.
