After its win against Lens on Wednesday night in the rescheduled Matchday 29 match, PSG secured the Ligue 1 title. A source of pride for Luis Enrique, who has earned a third league title in three years.
Unofficially French champion since its win at Parc des Princes last Sunday against Brest (1-0), PSG officially secured Ligue 1 on Wednesday night with its clinical win at Lens in the rescheduled Matchday 29 match (0-2). After the win, Luis Enrique acknowledged on beIN SPORTS 1 that this title was difficult to earn.
"A more difficult title to earn than the previous ones? Without a doubt. Lens did a great job, and it was very difficult, the most difficult of the three that we have won here," he said.
Enrique wanted to highlight Lens' level, describing them as a Champions League team. It should be remembered that the Blood and Gold have already secured their qualification for the next edition of the UCL.
"Proud of the players' attitude? It is not easy to play this type of match. We were 99.9% champions. Playing in that atmosphere, we tried to think that we were playing a Champions League match. It was really a Champions League match because Lens and PSG are going to play in the next one. I think we enjoyed the atmosphere; it was complicated."
The PSG coach, as expected, also highlighted the level of goalkeeper Matvey Safonov, who had an imperial match against Lens with eight saves.
"I think Lens deserved more. They created many chances, but today, Safonov did an incredible job. I think we were able to see a very high-level soccer match, and that is the most important thing because the league title was already won before."
"Will I be able to rest tonight? If I told you what I talked about with Rafel Pol before the match, you would think I was joking. The coach is always ready for whatever happens. At this moment, I think we should change nothing. If we think about the goal of May 30, there is still one match left to finish the league season and decide how many minutes the players should play."
