The New England Patriots have had a busy offseason, signing wide receiver Romeo Doubs in free agency and rumored to be trading for fellow wideout AJ Brown next month. The Patriots are looking to build off last year’s surprise trip to the Super Bowl, which ended in a blowout loss to the Seattle Seahawks.

While he had a rough performance in the playoffs, quarterback Drake Maye was elite throughout the regular season, establishing himself as a legit MVP candidate for the Patriots.

Now, Patriots tight end free agent signee Julian Hill has spoken glowingly about Maye heading into his third season.

“It’s finding ways to exploit things, finding ways to take advantage of certain things, take advantage of certain matchups. What a quarterback. And I’m not just saying that to say because I’m a Patriot. What a quarterback. Guy’s young, guy’s vocal, guy’s a leader,” said Hill, per Ethan Hurwitz of Sports Illustrated.

Maye looked like an emerging superstar with his 2025 performance for the Patriots, taking advantage of the team’s historically light schedule to put up epic numbers on a weekly basis and lead New England back into the postseason. While the team’s defense did the majority of the heavy lifting from there, it was still a breakout campaign for the former number three overall pick.

Heading into next season, the Patriots will look to prove that their run was no fluke, but doing so will be no easy task, as New England will have a much tougher schedule, as well as losing the advantage of being able to “sneak up” on teams as they might have done in years past. The drama surrounding head coach Mike Vrabel also probably won’t help matters.

In any case, New England’s season will begin in early September.
