Oscar Piastri joins Alex Albon and Gabriel Bortoleto in viral karting session

Oscar Piastri posted a glimpse of what he's got up to in the three-week break coming off the Miami Grand Prix. He posted photos to Instagram of a karting session attended by him and fellow Formula 1 drivers Alex Albon and Gabriel Bortoleto, with the caption, "Natural habitat".

This two-word summary prompted over 350,000 likes, 560 comments, and 5700 shares at the time of writing.

Albon, carrying the number 23 on his race suit, is as on-brand as Bortoleto is, as they both wear their team colours: Williams and Audi respectively. Piastri, on the other hand, is wearing a Grill’d suit – a brand that boasted a number of F1 and Piastri-themed menu items that gained viral attention in 2025.

Haas F1 driver Ollie Bearman was quick to comment on the post. "Nice kart," he wrote – a response that in itself garnered over 7000 likes. Eagle-eyed followers also spotted Lando Norris' kart in the background of the first slide, with some wondering if this could be for another Quadrant video after the recent success with Carlos Sainz.

All three drivers have a strong karting history, with Bortoleto starting aged seven and winning multiple national titles before graduating in 2020. Piastri swept national karting competitions before a third-place finish at the IAME International Final at Le Mans and sixth place overall in the CIK-FIA World Karting Championship in the OK-Junior category before moving to open-wheel racing in 2016.

Albon raced in karts under the number 46 – a tribute to MotoGP legend Valentino Rossi. His 2010 season was undeniably successful. Driving for Intrepid with backing from the Red Bull Junior Programme, he was practically unbeatable in the KF3 class before moving to KF1, where he was equally as successful.

Piastri, Albon, and Bortoleto had previously been seen alongside Charles Leclerc, George Russell, and Ollie Bearman at the Monte-Carlo Masters. They will reunite at the Canadian Grand Prix sprint weekend, with Sunday's race taking place on 24 May.
