Oliver Kahn questions Vincent Kompany’s Bayern Munich tactics

Bayern Munich’s semifinals defeat to Paris Saint-Germain was a bitter end to what had been an inspiring Champions League campaign. Now, thanks to the result, the same tactics that Vincent Kompany’s squad used to put on convincing displays are being seen in a new light.

Former Bayern CEO Oliver Kahn did not take long after the defeat to analyze the potential pitfalls of Kompany’s approach.

“We’ve seen in recent weeks that Kompany’s system involves a lot of risk,” Kahn stated in comments captured by @iMiaSanMia. “When this system loses even a little bit of control, you quickly see how vulnerable it can be. And that’s exactly what happened against Paris.

“It didn’t take two or three minutes. You can’t always score four goals when you concede two or three. In modern football, it’s not about rigidly adhering to one system, but about having a plan B and being able to implement many different ideas.”

Does Kompany not have a Plan B? Or is Kahn being too harsh after a hard-fought, occasionally controversial affair with one of the best teams in the world?
