Manchester United’s final home game of the season sees us entertain Nottingham Forest on Sunday.
It could be a day to remember at Old Trafford, as the 2026/27 home kit is debuted and Casemiro says his farewells ahead of his summer departure.
A point will be enough for Michael Carrick’s side to guarantee a third-placed finish and, although Forest are definitely safe now, Vitor Pereira’s men will be looking to prolong their own good run of form, which has seen them win four and draw four of their last eight top-flight fixtures.
Our goalless draw at Sunderland brought an end to a 23-match scoring streak in the Premier League, although we didn’t lose any ground to the teams below us, with Liverpool and Aston Villa also held, by Chelsea and Burnley respectively.
Forest have pulled away from relegation trouble since Pereira succeeded Sean Dyche in February. The former Wolves boss lost his first two league matches in charge, but an important victory at Tottenham Hotspur before the international break heralded the beginning of an impressive run.
The Tricky Trees put four past Burnley and five past Sunderland, before a 3-0 win over Chelsea at Stamford Bridge last week – with a heavily rotated side due to injuries and prioritising a Europa League semi-final with Aston Villa – really made the City Ground faithful confident of being a Premier League club in 2026/27.
Elliot Anderson’s late equaliser against former club Newcastle moved Forest on to 43 points, a tally 18th-placed West Ham United can no longer reach following their defeat to Arsenal.
United are looking for a first league win against Forest since August 2023 – a helter-skelter match that saw Christian Eriksen, Casemiro and Bruno Fernandes score to help us recover from two goals down to win 3-2.
The East Midlanders did the double over us last term, under Nuno Espirito Santo, while the City Ground meeting earlier this season ended 2-2.
Casemiro gave us a first-half lead, but a quickfire turnaround by Forest early in the second left us contemplating another defeat to the Tricky Trees.
Amad had other ideas though, volleying home from a corner with a strike that is in the running for our Goal of the Season award.
TEAM NEWS
Casemiro should be fine to appear at Old Trafford for the final time, according to Carrick, after missing out on the goalless draw at Sunderland.
Benjamin Sesko and Manuel Ugarte didn’t make the trip to Wearside either, and the boss may provide an update on the pair later this week when he conducts his press conference.
Matthijs de Ligt hasn’t featured since late November, although he continues to work hard at Carrington.
Forest were without 10 first-team players for the 1-1 draw against Newcastle United, a result which has ultimately secured survival with two games to play.
Taiwo Awoniyi and Luca Netz returned to face the Magpies, but Morgan Gibbs-White has been absent after suffering a facial injury at Chelsea on Bank Holiday Monday, while Pereira was unable to provide timescales on comebacks for Murillo (hamstring), Dan Ndoye (groin), Callum Hudson-Odoi (thigh), Ola Aina and Ibrahim Sangare.
Willy Boly, Nicolo Savona and John Victor all look likely to miss the game with long-term problems.
