The Vegas Golden Knights can eliminate the Anaheim Ducks on Thursday night with a win in Game 6. The young upstart Ducks will do everything they can to force a Game 7 on Saturday. However, Mitch Marner put a ton of pressure on this young team early in the game.
The puck had just dropped in Anaheim when Marner struck. A beautiful outlet pass from William Karlsson sprang Marner on a breakaway. Marner battled with a Ducks defenseman, but eventually put the puck past Lukas Dostal with an unreal between-the-legs finish.
The Golden Knights went on to add to their lead. And Marner had a hand in that second goal, as well. He assisted on Brett Howden’s goal to give the Golden Knights a massive 2-0 lead over the Ducks. Vegas added another goal to make it 3-0.
Marner has been a star for Vegas in his first postseason with the team. He scored a natural hat trick in Game 3 against the Ducks, for instance. Overall, he entered Thursday night’s contest with six goals and 16 points this postseason. His points lead all Golden Knights skaters, as well.
The Golden Knights traded for Marner last summer in a deal with the Toronto Maple Leafs. As part of the trade, he signed an eight-year contract with Vegas. He has previously spent his entire career with Toronto.
Marner is leveling up his game at the exact time the Golden Knights need him to. If he can continue with this run of form, he could reach his first Conference Final by the end of the night on Thursday.
