The Vegas Golden Knights put pressure on the Anaheim Ducks early in Game 6. Mitch Marner scored a beautiful goal that opened the scoring for Vegas. This gave the team the launching pad they needed to win Game 6 and move on to the Western Conference Finals.
Marner and Pavel Dorofeyev were the stars of the show. Marner scored the aforementioned goal and added an assist to his ledger. Dorofeyev scored twice in the third period. Brett Howden also added a goal in this contest to help Anaheim win 5-1. As a result, they are on to their first Western Conference Finals appearance since 2023.
The Ducks put in a very solid effort in this series. They won Games 2 and 4 to give the Golden Knights a challenge. Unfortunately, it was not enough to overcome their more experienced opponents.
One of the issues Anaheim could not solve was Marner. He was a force throughout this series. He scored a natural hat trick in Game 3 to lead the Golden Knights to a dominant win in that contest. Overall, he scored five goals and 11 points against Anaheim to pace Vegas in this second-round series.
Marner was not alone in this effort, though. For instance, Dorofeyev had some standout performances. His magnum opus came in Game 5. He scored two goals, including the game-winner in overtime. The overtime goal came after he had briefly left the game due to a blocked shot.
The Golden Knights are one step away from returning to the Stanley Cup Final. In the West Final, Vegas will take on the Colorado Avalanche. The Avalanche eliminated Quinn Hughes and the Minnesota Wild on Wednesday night in five games.
