The 2026 college football season kicks off on Aug. 29 with a handful of exciting Week 0 matchups. However, the Oregon Ducks will have to wait until Week 1 to get things started. They'll host the Boise State Broncos at Autzen Stadium on Sept. 5.
Dan Lanning and his squad are looking for a hot start after yet another disappointing College Football Playoff loss. Their shot at winning a national championship ended after falling to the Indiana Hoosiers 56-22 in the Peach Bowl.
However, expectations remain high going into 2026. Oregon has the third-best odds (+260) to secure a Big Ten title and the fifth-best odds to win the national championship (+800).

Not only are the Ducks bringing back quarterback Dante Moore, but they also landed 16 commitments in the transfer portal. Fox Sports analyst Joel Klatt claims the Oregon roster is good enough to compete for a national championship, but still has lingering concerns.
“This is a championship or bust type roster,” Klatt said. “They are taking steps forward, but the problem is that they allowed 56 points versus Indiana, 41 versus Ohio State in their last two CFP losses. This is supposed to be a defensive guy, Dan Lanning, and in big games, their defense doesn’t really show up.”
The Ducks' defense was among the best in the nation last season. The unit ranked 12th in points allowed per game (17.9) and seventh in total yards allowed per game (273.7). To help in big moments, they emphasized defensive talent in the portal.
Of their 16 additions, seven play on the defensive side of the ball. Some of the splashier moves were four-star safety Koi Perich (Minnesota Golden Gophers) and four-star defensive lineman D'Antre Robinson (North Carolina Tar Heels).
Oregon appears to have one of the most talented rosters in college football heading into the 2026 season. However, as Klatt alluded to, the Ducks need to put together stronger performances outside of the regular season.
