The Carolina Hurricanes found themselves in overtime against the Philadelphia Flyers in Game 4, and they were able to get the win thanks to Jackson Blake. He ripped a shot past the goalie for his second goal of the game, and it helped the Hurricanes advance to the Eastern Conference Finals.
The Hurricanes are 8-0 in the playoffs and will face either the Montreal Canadiens or Buffalo Sabres in the next round.
Logan Stankoven had his seventh tally of the playoffs late in the third period to give the Hurricanes a 2-1 lead after a cross-ice pass from Taylor Hall. The Flyers were able to tie the game just a few minutes later when Alex Bump shot past Frederik Andersen’s glove side from the slot after a setup from Travis Konecny.
The Flyers had a few chances to take the lead, but they were never able to execute. There’s no doubt that they fought throughout the series, but the Hurricanes made the right plays at the right time.
It has been a complete group effort by the Hurricanes in the Stanley Cup Playoffs, and it’s a reason why they haven’t lost a game. Just before Game 4 against the Flyers, head coach Rod Brind’Amour gave praise to Nikolaj Ehlers for his play throughout the postseason.
“When he gets the puck, there’s a little different flair,” Brind’Amour said via NHL.com. “He can kind of make something out of nothing, and that’s a unique gift that not many players have in this league. And he certainly has that.”
Of course, there have been other players who have also stepped up, and they will continue to show up the further the Hurricanes make it throughout the postseason.
