Serie A giants Inter are likely to look for a new goalkeeper in the summer amidst doubts about Yann Sommer. A move for Tottenham’s Guglielmo Vicario now looks increasingly unlikely.
At one point, it seemed like the Italian is nailed on to join the Nerazzurri, having also agreed personal terms with them.
Now, Sky – via Calciomercato, expressed serious about whether the Tottenham player will end up joining Inter or not.
This is mainly because Josep Martinez has done quite well in recent weeks and Inter now consider him as a possible first-choice between the sticks. He can end up retaining that position next season and essentially act as a replacement for Sommer.
Inter’s aim is now to find a back-up goalkeeper, with Lazio’s Ivan Provedel amongst the players considered.
Reasons likely financial
Apart from Martinez’s impressive performances, Inter’s reasons to move on from Vicario can also be financial. Tottenham are unlikely to budge too much from their asking price, with the goalkeeper’s contract running out in 2028.
It makes no sense for Inter to pay a hefty amount, just to keep Vicario as a back-up. That would also not stand acceptable for the 29-year-old, who will be a guaranteed first-choice wherever he goes.
