'If I was in their position...': Rodri makes Arsenal title race prediction as Man City wait for dropped points

Manchester City star Rodri has sent a warning to Arsenal as the Premier League title race comes to a head.

The midfielder on Saturday helped City win their second domestic trophy of the season by beating Chelsea at Wembley in the FA Cup final. Antoine Semenyo scored the only goal in a 1-0 win.

It saw City add the FA Cup to the Carabao Cup trophy won earlier this season by beating Arsenal at the same stadium, but the destination of the real prize the two teams are fighting for is yet to be decided.

Arsenal sit two points clear of City, thanks to the latter’s draw at Everton earlier in May, and head to relegated Burnley on Monday evening in their penultimate game of the Premier League season.

City will again need to respond against Champions League-chasing Bournemouth on Tuesday evening, knowing further dropped points could hand Arsenal the title if the Gunners had one the previous evening.

But Rodri is not giving up, and believes the pressure is on Arsenal to keep on winning as they look to clinch a first top-flight crown in 22 years.

“It’s a confidence boost [winning the FA Cup] but we don’t lose our calm, still two games to play, they are massive and they are very, very tough,” Rodri told Hayters at Wembley on Saturday.

“Everything can happen. We need them to drop points, which could happen in the next game [against Burnley] or the last one [against Crystal Palace].

“If I was in their position, it’s not easy to finish the task. We have to be there pushing until the end.”

Asked if he believes Arsenal will drop points, Rodri replied: “I mean, from our experience we were losing the title against Aston Villa at our home in minute 80 [in 2022].

‘So everything can happen in football. We know how difficult it is to close things and we know how difficult it is to beat everyone in this Premier League.”

Arsenal can move five points clear of City, having played one game more, by beating the Clarets at the Emirates Stadium on Monday evening.
