Bayern Munich legend Karl-Heinze Rummenigge has predicted that Hansi Flick will go on to win the Champions League with Barcelona.
Flick has delivered two La Liga titles in his first two seasons with Barcelona, along with two Spanish Super Cups and the Copa del Rey.
Rummenigge thinks that Flick can also win the Champions League in the future with the Catalans.
“I know my old friend Joan Laporta very well , and I also know how difficult the environment in Barcelona can be. Shortly after Hansi arrived, I ran into Laporta by chance and told him: ‘You have to promise me that you’ll be Hansi’s best friend. And that you’ll always support him to the fullest!’ Hansi needs that trust to succeed. And I’m very happy that it has been that way,” he told Bild.
“Winning the title twice ahead of Real Madrid and, moreover, significantly rejuvenating the team, is a great achievement. I’ll say it now: Hansi will also win the Champions League with this team, if he stays there long enough.”
Rummenigge also spoke about Flick’s way of working and how he earns the trust of his players.
“I am delighted that he has achieved it, because he deserves this success. Hansi has that exceptional quality of working brilliantly with his team and building great trust-based relationships with the players,” he added.
“The players would have given their lives for their coach, and Hansi embodies that value as much as Vincent Kompany. They are very relevant figures for the success of their teams.”
Barcelona have so far made it to the quarter-finals and semi-finals of the Champions League under Flick but will aim to improve on that next season in Europe.
