
Hamburg have confirmed plans to open talks with Tottenham over loanee Luka Vuskovic.
The young defender has earned rave reviews all season for his performances in the Bundesliga, which has reportedly attracted interest from the likes of European giants Barcelona.
Vuskovic has made no secret of his desire to remain on loan at Hamburg next season so he can play with his brother, Mario, who is currently a doping ban which expires in November.
Confirming that Vuskovic, along with five other loanees including Arsenal’s Fabio Vieira, will “as it stands” return to their parent clubs on July 1 but wish to open talks over extending their stays.
Sporting director Claus Costa said: “We would like to expressly thank all six players for their performances and their commitment to the club.
“Fabio [Vieria] and Luka certainly stand out as key players of the past season, but all the loaned players also contributed to us achieving our season goal ahead of schedule in our first year back in the Bundesliga.
“They showed great commitment to the team and the club, both on and off the pitch.
“Regarding a possible future with HSV, we will be holding talks with the various parties in the coming days.”
The club have confirmed that there is currently no agreement with Spurs over extending Vuskovic’s stay.
Vuskovic made 30 appearances for the Hamburg, scoring a remarkable six goals from centre-back.
A club statement concluded: “HSV thanks the six players for their service and wishes them all the best for their future careers, which may well continue with the club's diamond crest.
“After all, in Hamburg, they say ‘Tschüss,’ which means goodbye.”
