After spending the first four years of his career with the Seattle Seahawks, Kenneth Walker decided to joined the Kansas City Chiefs in free agency. Now, he and Zach Charbonnet won’t be sharing a backfield.

Walker is aware the media may try to drum up a rift between the two, tying Walker’s decision to them being forced to split the rushing responsibilities. But Walker doesn’t see it that way. No matter what franchise each player is on for the remainder of their careers, the running backs will remain tight, via DJ Siddiqi of Ratings.

“Yeah, definitely, yeah. We’re always close,” Walker said. “The media will try to separate you, say this, say that, but like we knew off rip that we were going to be close, making sure we had that bond no matter what. So yeah, I still talk to Zach pretty much daily.”

Now in Kansas City though, the Chiefs will be expecting Walker to be the top dog of their rushing attack. While Patrick Mahomes – when healthy – massively elevates the passing game, the Chiefs have been in desperate need of  a dominant rusher. They haven’t had a player rush for 1,000+ yards since Kareem Hunt in 2017.

Over his four season with the Seahawks, Walker ran for 3,555 yards and 29 touchdowns. He ended his time in Seattle by being named Super Bowl MVP after gaining 161 yards from scrimmage.

Both the Seahawks and Chiefs will be looking to make a Super Bowl run in 2026. Each running back will be looking to play a big role in their team’s success; in Charbonnet’s case when he returns from injury. But as they continue their NFL careers, both Walker and Charbonnet will be rooting for each other from afar.
