The Kansas City Chiefs’ home stadium has undergone transformative renovations ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, during which they’ll host six matches.
The Kansas City Chiefs will soon hand over the keys to their home to FIFA for the 2026 World Cup. In doing so, GEHA Field at Arrowhead Stadium will undergo a temporary transformation, becoming “Kansas City Stadium” for a brief time through some minor renovations.
In addition to six matches set to be played at Arrowhead, Kansas City will host four national teams as official Team Base Camps for the FIFA World Cup. Argentina will train at the Sporting KC Performance Center, England will be at Swope Soccer Village, the Netherlands will stay at KC Current Training Center, and Algeria will be at the University of Kansas in Lawrence, Kansas.
Kansas City FIFA World Cup Match Schedule
In just 30 days, Kansas City Stadium will host eight teams in the group stage of the FIFA World Cup. From there, they will host a match in the Round of 32 and the quarterfinals.

Group Stage: Argentina vs. Algeria on June 16 at 8 p.m. CT.

Group Stage: Ecuador vs. Curacao on June 20 at 7 p.m. CT.

Group Stage: Tunisia vs. Netherlands on June 25 at 6 p.m. CT.

With about five weeks left until the first matchup, the Chiefs allowed local media members to get a glimpse of the progress at Arrowhead.

Renovations have been underway for some time now and are progressing nicely ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup. The main renovation that draws attention is the removal of 3,500 seats on the visitor sideline of GEHA Field at Arrowhead Stadium. This is done in order to fit the pitch, but it will be fixed by August, just in time for football season. The team expects attendance to range from 65,000 to 68,000 fans.
Additionally, other improvements made include new LED lighting, air temperature control systems, and a Bermuda grass playing surface.
You might notice that signage has been taken down. Signs with Chiefs’ advertisers will be removed or covered during the FIFA World Cup games at Arrowhead.
Despite being an American Football team, the Chiefs remain committed to further cementing Kansas City as the “Soccer Capital of America” during the 2026 FIFA World Cup. The transformation of their home stadium is just further proof of that.
