Catalan media have made quite a bit of noise over João Pedro in the last couple days, claiming that our main man is not only well admired in Barcelona, but that he’s on their very short shortlist for potential reinforcements at striker this summer.
Robert Lewandowski looks set to leave after four years for one final massive paycheck at age 37, and though Julián Alvarez is their primary target, Chelsea’s leading goalscorer is not far behind. The reports accept that neither target would be an easy get, though the former is apparently keen on the idea, which might test Atlético Madrid’s stance and supposedly astronomical asking price.
Thankfully, reports closer to home indicate that JP would be a lot less keen on the idea — regardless of any schmoozing from Barca sporting director Deco. At the same time, Chelsea have no intention of selling, as per The Athletic, the Mail, and the BBC. The 24-year-old, who’s become our first 20-goal center forward in nearly a decade, is considered an “untouchable” (even at a rumored value of €100m), and he himself is said to be fully committed to the project.
So hopefully this rumor dies away and we can continue to count on him as a main building block for Xabi Alonso’s Blue and White Army.
