He’s sticking around into the 2030s.
Illinois announced last week that Brad Underwood agreed to new terms on his current contract keeping him in Champaign through June 30, 2032. That contract could extend as far as June 30, 2036, based on performance, according to a news release.
The agreement is pending approval by the Board of Trustees on Thursday.
This shouldn’t come as a surprise to anyone, as the Illini have clearly been among the nation’s best teams for the better part of the last decade, culminating with a Final Four trip this season.
Underwood will be 69 in 2032, so it’s to be seen if he actually sticks around for the length of the contract, or passes it along to one of his long-tenured staff members — even his son Tyler.
