Bayern Munich have taken a concrete step toward signing Newcastle winger Anthony Gordon, with negotiations now underway and a transfer likely to be completed at some point in the next few weeks once all sides agree to terms.
“Bayern Munich have opened talks with Newcastle over a potential summer move for Anthony Gordon,” Sky Sports’ Keith Downie reported on Thursday.
The update marks a shift from previous interest and a low-ball offer into formal talks, with direct contact established between Bayern and Newcastle United.
Downie added that Newcastle are ready to consider offers for any and every one of their stars as part of a wider summer reshuffle, so this development shouldn’t surprise anyone.
“Newcastle will listen to offers for the England winger this summer as they expect him to want to explore his options,” Downie wrote.
The 25-year-old winger remains under a long-term contract at Newcastle, having four years left in his deal, but Bayern’s approach signals growing confidence from the German champions in landing yet another Premier League standout.
“Official contact has been made by the German champions, who have been keeping an eye on the 25-year-old since the turn of the year,” Downie wrote.
Downie outlined the likely valuation in any negotiations, with Newcastle set to complete a sale for double what they paid Everton for Gordon a few years ago.
“They would be looking for a big outlay again if clubs were to make official approaches for Gordon… I’d say around double the £40m (+£5m) Newcastle paid for him in 2023.”
Downie made it clear: Gordon’s days in Newcastle are most likely numbered.
“Having been with Newcastle for more than three seasons, there is a real chance Gordon could go this summer,” Downie wrote.
