When Bayern Munich announced the signing of contract extensions with Manuel Neuer and Sven Ulreich, it was deemed a longtime coming given the rumors that had been floating for weeks.
Afterward, FCBayern.com issued a press release with commentary from some of the clubs leading executives:
Herbert Hainer, President: “FC Bayern has had a string of truly exceptional goalkeepers throughout its history – and Manuel Neuer holds a very special place among them: he is the face not just of one, but of two generations, and a captain who is an outstanding role model both on and off the pitch. We are proud of the way he has shaped this club for over a decade. Keep it up!”
Jan-Christian Dreesen, CEO: “Manuel Neuer was one of the best signings in our club’s history. Nearly 600 appearances for FC Bayern, and now we’re heading into our 16th season together – that says almost everything about his extraordinary importance. Manuel has pushed the boundaries of goalkeeping, and even at 40 he is still surpassing himself. People will still be talking about this goalkeeper, this captain and this character for many years to come. We are delighted that he and Sven Ulreich, reliability personified, are staying with us for another season. This goalkeeping duo is one for the history books.”
Max Eberl, Board member for sport: “We have a clear plan for our goalkeeping setup and are implementing it step by step: Manuel Neuer, Sven Ulreich and Jonas Urbig form a goalkeeping team in which everyone has their role and which is developing together. Manuel and Sven will continue to support Jonas on his path to becoming the future of FC Bayern. We are very much looking forward to a new season with this perfect line-up.”
Christoph Freund, Sporting director: “FC Bayern is in excellent shape for the future when it comes to goalkeepers: Manuel Neuer and Sven Ulreich possess a level of experience others can only dream of – and Jonas Urbig benefits from this in their daily training sessions. All three are great characters who together form a unique team, the likes of which cannot be found at any other European club.”
With Neuer, Ulreich, and Jonas Urbig in tow, the Bayern Munich goalkeeper situation appears to be in good hands.
