Arsenal vs Man City: Premier League title race goes to the wire

The run-in of the Premier League remains hot – and controversial – with Arsenal and Manchester City still fighting for the title.

After a 1-0 win over West Ham, the Gunenrs managed to keep the advantage of depending only on themselves to end a long 22-year wait for a Premier League crown, but challenges still lie ahead, and keeping Guardiola's side from winning remains part of the Gunners' plan.

At the moment, Arsenal (79) are five points clear of Manchester City (74), but the Cityzens still have a game in hand. While the north London club are also thinking about the Champions League final, the Manchester side have the FA Cup final ahead of them and a heavier schedule until the end of the season. Does either team have an advantage in this race

Arsenal's path

After a run of important matches in the domestic league and the Champions League, Arsenal now have a more favourable fixture list, with no midweek commitments. Their next match will only be next Monday (18), at home against already relegated Burnley.

Then, on the final day, their opponent will be Crystal Palace, a side that no longer has anything to play for in the Premier League and will play the Conference League final a few days later against Rayo Vallecano, with the chance of winning not only a trophy but also a place in Europa League next season.

Man City's path

For Manchester City, the road is more hectic. This Wednesday (13), Guardiola's team will face Crystal Palace in a match from matchweek 31, postponed because of the Carabao Cup final, which City won precisely against Arsenal. That match, taking place at the Etihad, could cut the gap to two points, or create the chance for the Gunners to clinch the trophy already in the following round

On Saturday (16), the assignment is at Wembley, in the FA Cup final against Chelsea, which pushed their Premier League round-37 match against Bournemouth to the following midweek. That is an away game on Tuesday (19), against the Cherries, who are still dreaming of a Champions League spot.

On the final day, City play at home against Aston Villa, currently fifth, who could arrive in very different spirits, as they will play the Europa League final a few days before: winning the trophy would leave them celebrating and already guaranteed in next season's Champions League, but a defeat could mean they need a strong result to secure qualification for Europe's top club competition.

What does the maths say

Arsenal simply need to win these two matches to end their 22-year trophy drought in the domestic competition. The title could be sealed early in two ways: another City slip-up against Palace, or a 'sofa celebration' if they beat Burnley on Monday and see their rivals fail to beat Bournemouth the following day.

As for City, the mission is to win all three of their matches and hope Arsenal drop points at least once, which would leave both teams level on 83 points and take the decision to tie-breakers.
