A’ja Wilson torched the nets all night as she led the Las Vegas Aces to a solid 101-94 road win over the Connecticut Sun on Friday.
Wilson is going through the ninth season of her incredible WNBA career with the Aces. She dominates as arguably the best player in the entire league, having led Las Vegas to three championships with two Finals MVPs to show for it.
Going into the game, Las Vegas won its last two games after losing in the season opener. They took on a Connecticut squad that is winless to start the year, seeking a solid victory at home.
Despite their efforts, Wilson outmatched them in every way throughout her 32 minutes of action. She finished with a stat line of 45 points, three rebounds, three assists, two blocks, and one steal. She shot 15-of-18 from the field, including 2-of-2 from beyond the arc, and 13-of-13 from the free-throw line.
Her dominance allowed her to have the most efficient 45-point game in WNBA history, becoming the only player to score 45 or more points on 80% shooting, per ESPN Insights.
How A’ja Wilson, Aces played against Sun
The Sun will need to win in their next game as they were on match for A’ja Wilson’s dominant performance in the Aces win.
Shot accuracy and free throws made the difference in this matchup. The Aces prevailed in both categories by making 60% of their total shots and made 25 out of 32 free throws. It wasn’t the same for the Sun after they only made 44% of their total shot attempts and converted just 13 out of 15 shots at the line.
Four players scored in double-digits for Las Vegas in the win, including Wilson. Chennedy Carter delivered a strong performance off the bench with 18 points, two steals, one assist, one rebound, and a block. Jackie Young came next with 13 points and six assists, while Chelsea Gray provided 12 points and 10 assists.
The Aces will look forward to their fifth matchup of the season, remaining on the road. They take on the Atlanta Dream as the game takes place on May 17 at 1:30 p.m. ET.
